Mako Barato Meals: Offering Unli Meals For Only Php 249.00 – A Food Review

It was a rainy Sunday evening when my friends and I went to Mako Barato Meals located in MJ Cuenco – alongside is opening road of the South Road Properties (SRP).  Frankly, it is easy spotted, since it is located behind KKD STK+BBQ Restaurant, right across Malacanang SA Sugbo or Plaza Independencia. If you find it difficult to look for the place, just use your google map or use Waze and type Mako Barato Meals. There – you’ll definitely get the precise location.

We were supposed to cancel our food trip that time, since it was raining. Simply, the heavens must have listened to our pleas hence, the rain stopped just in time. I was the first one who arrived at the said place, because my friend informed me that it usually has a long queue, especially during weekend. Thus, I followed his instruction.

The Waiting Time

True enough, upon arriving at Mako Barato Meals, there is already a long queue that seems intolerable, but I was patient enough and had my reservation right away. It took us around 1 hour of waiting, good thing I followed my friend’s direction, or else we could have had our dinner at 9:00 PM. And so, just right in time, my friends arrived before they called my name.

The Food Menu

In that respect – they’ve given me the list of menus, and we paid right away. Thus, below are the menus and the inclusions of unlimited meals for PHP 249.00.

Note: Drinks are not included.

Unli Meal inclusions:

  • Baked Scallops
  • Grilled Pork Belly
  • Butterfly Squid
  • Chicken Inasal
  • Lumpia
  • Chicken Wings
  • Grilled Shrimps – 3 pieces of grilled shrimps are provided on 1st set. (Additional Order is Php 150.00 per serving)

The Ambiance of The Place

During our visit, we were informed that the Scallops is not available. They said that – it is out of stock. I was a bit dismayed that time, since I was expecting to eat a lot of Scallops, since I’ve been craving for it for quite sometimes already. Even so, instead of paying for Grilled shrimps, they make the shrimps unlimited in the absence of scallops. I was able to regain my excitement after hearing about the good news. We then went upstairs – an overlooking sea view at night was waiting for all of us. The sea breeze and the cold weather were cooperating perfectly. A few minutes later, the food has arrived. They served us a boatload of grilled shrimps, Pork belly, Chicken Inasal, Lumpia and Chicken Wings, which comes with different flavor. Our dinner could have been perfect, if there’s a scallop available at that time. Nonetheless, we still enjoy the food.

We were so hungry at that time. That being said, I wasn’t able to take a lot of photos. Even then, I was able to take photos of the food before we eat. The place isn’t that big, perhaps this is the reason why there’s always a long queue outside.

The taste of their Food

Grilled Shrimp – Firstly, I tried the grilled shrimp, and what to expect? I took as much as I can – then, I found out that it isn’t that delicious as I was expecting it to be. Perhaps because it is grilled, and not the luscious garlic butter shrimp I had in mind. The good thing was, they have a soy sauce where you can use to dip the grilled shrimp.

Grilled Pork Belly – I didn’t find anything special about this food, since it tasted the same with other grilled pork I’ve tried in the different BBQ Houses around Cebu City However, it is delicious and personally, this has passed my taste standard.

Chicken wings – This is something I remember that has made me really happy. I liked it so much because this comes with different flavors. One flavor I really like is the buffalo wings.

Chicken Inasal – I guess, I wasn’t able to eat much of this. However, just like the Grilled Pork Belly, this one has passed my taste standard. But honestly, I find it a bit dry for some reason, maybe because the chicken was not marinated well. Nevertheless, it is something that you’d definitely love to try as well.

Lumpia – I remember that I only took one piece of this one. After I tried it, I didn’t able to get another one. Perhaps because I’m not a huge fan of Lumpia. Nonetheless, it is delicious, and like any normal Lumpia that you can find in the market as well.

My Conclusion

This beanery is cheap comparing it to other food place that offers unlimited food as well. Even so, I’m not sure if I’ll go back to this place again, perhaps because of the whole experience. However, I would still recommend this to my friends, especially those that love Scallops and shrimps. What I also love about this place is the location, since it is easily spotted and they too have a wide parking space. Moreover, apart from the Mako Barato Meals, there are also restaurants nearby that you can choose from. Anyway, If I were to give my rate for my whole experience in Mako Barato Meals – I would give 7/10.
